The conversation
Two consultations, around the visit dates
A breast implants consultation with Dr Nara in Adelaide is generally an hour. The Henry Rooms are quiet, the consulting room is private, and a chaperone is present throughout the examination. Dr Nara will examine the anatomy, measure tissue thickness and chest dimensions, and explain implant type, surface, volume and pocket-plane options.
Because Dr Nara visits Adelaide on selected dates rather than weekly, the two-consultation process is generally arranged around the visit cadence. The first consultation can be in person at Stepney, or — particularly for patients who would prefer to begin remotely — by Zoom. A second consultation before any commitment is encouraged, often during the next in-person visit. Many patients bring a partner, sister or friend to the second visit — this is welcome.
A formal written cooling-off period applies between consultation and any cosmetic procedure, in line with Medical Board of Australia guidelines. A written quote — when one is provided — is itemised: doctor's fee, anaesthetist, theatre, implants, consumables, follow-up. Dr Nara is a cosmetic doctor — private health insurance and Medicare rebates do not apply.
Coming to Stepney
A practical note on the rooms
The Henry Rooms sit on Nelson Street, Stepney, in Adelaide's inner east. The address was chosen for discretion and parking — the street is quiet, parking is straightforward, and the rooms are away from the busier inner-city footfall. Patients travel to Stepney for breast augmentation from across metropolitan Adelaide — Norwood, Kent Town, Burnside, Walkerville, Glenside, Magill, Marryatville, North Adelaide, Prospect, Unley, Parkside, Hyde Park, Malvern, Mile End, Henley Beach, Glenelg, Brighton, the Adelaide Hills and the foothills — and from regional South Australia, including the Barossa, Murray Bridge, Mount Gambier, Port Pirie and Whyalla, when the visit dates align.
The Stepney location is well-served by major arterial roads from the south, north and east. For patients coming from further afield, Adelaide Airport is a short drive away. If you need help planning a same-day visit, reception can advise.
Procedures themselves are performed at accredited Australian hospital facilities. Depending on the procedure and your circumstances, this may be in South Australia or interstate; Dr Nara will discuss the practicalities with you at consultation.
The procedure, in brief
Implant selection that fits the patient
Breast augmentation with implants involves placing a TGA-approved breast implant under the breast tissue and / or pectoralis major muscle to add volume and shape. The decision points are individual — implant type (round vs teardrop), surface (smooth vs textured), volume (commonly between 245cc and 450cc, occasionally outside this range), incision (inframammary, periareolar), and pocket plane (subglandular, dual plane, or submuscular). The right combination depends on your existing tissue, your goals, and your anatomy.
A full clinical overview, including the risks specific to breast implants — bleeding, infection, capsular contracture, implant malposition, rippling, sensation change, BIA-ALCL risk, and the long-term need for review — is on the breast implants pillar page. Information on revision and removal is on the revision breast implants and breast implant removal pages.
Cosmetic surgery carries risks. These are discussed openly at consultation, in the context of your circumstances. The risks of surgery page gives a fuller factual overview.
