Why patients trust RevAesthetic
Dr Kishen Nara is a Surgical Fellow of the Australasian College of Cosmetic Surgery and Medicine, with a Fellowship specific to cosmetic surgery. Dr Nara has performed numerous breast implant procedures across Australia.
Accredited facilities and surgical standards. We operate only in accredited and licensed day hospitals in Melbourne and Adelaide and adhere to national safety and anaesthetic protocols for your peace of mind.
Tailored, personalised consultations. Each patient is unique with their respective cosmetic journey. Our one-on-one consultations exclusively with Dr Kishen Nara ensure your aesthetic goals are clearly understood and respected.
Types of implants discussed at consultation. Silicone implants are pre-filled with a cohesive gel that closely mimics the feel of natural breast tissue. Saline implants are filled with sterile salt water and are often adjusted in volume during surgery. We only use TGA-approved implants. Round implants provide fullness to the upper part of the breast, while teardrop implants mimic the natural breast shape where the maximum point of projection is at the lower half of the implant. Textured implants are designed to reduce movement and may reduce the risk of capsular contracture; smooth implants feel softer and can move more freely within the breast pocket. We will guide you through the pros and cons during your consultation.
Surgical techniques and incision options. Inframammary (under the breast fold) is the most commonly used incision in Australia and New Zealand, placed discreetly in the fold under the breast. Periareolar (around the nipple) allows for accurate implant placement but may be better suited for patients with a defined areolar border and those not concerned about potential changes to nipple sensation; the diameter of the areolar can also be altered. Transaxillary (through the armpit) leaves no scar on the breast itself; the incision is hidden in the armpit, and implants are inserted with the aid of an endoscope. Some patients may prefer this approach for various reasons.
A confidential, balanced consultation
Dr Nara provides a personalised and confidential consult to build your understanding about breast augmentation with implants or fat graft to the breasts. The consult supports your decision-making process — whether you have surgery or not.
The patients in our gallery have significantly different goals and very specific requests. Specialised, detailed assessments and surgical techniques are required to both review and analyse their respective goals. Not all patients are suitable for cosmetic surgery, and it is important to make an informed decision before any cosmetic undertaking. Dr Nara will discuss your options at the consult regarding bilateral breast augmentation with implants — colloquially known as "boob job surgery" in Melbourne.
Dr Nara's approach to the consultation is to be balanced, realistic, informative and honest to assist you to make an informed decision.
Three reflective questions Dr Nara asks every patient:
- Is this the right time for you to look into surgery?
- Do you understand the implications?
- Can your body take it?
-
01 Is a “boob job” the same as breast augmentation?
“Boob job” is a common informal term for breast augmentation — the surgical placement of implants to change breast size or shape. The clinical name is breast augmentation (or augmentation mammoplasty). At RevAesthetic it is performed by Dr Kishen Nara (MBBS, FACCSM(Surg), AHPRA MED0001201549). Breast augmentation, breast lift and breast implant removal are distinct procedures, and which (if any) is appropriate is assessed individually at consultation. Click here to understand the risks of surgery. -
02 How long do breast implants last?
While breast implants are durable, they are not lifetime devices. Most last 10–15 years, though some may last longer without issues. We recommend regular follow-up assessments to monitor implant condition and breast health. The most important factor is capsular contracture formation. -
03 Can I breastfeed after breast augmentation?
Most patients are still able to breastfeed after surgery, especially when implants are placed under the muscle. However, this can depend on incision type and individual anatomy. We'll discuss all implications and previous research about this during your consultation. -
04 How do I choose the right implant size?
Implant size is chosen based on your body proportions, tissue characteristics, and aesthetic goals. During your consultation, Dr Nara will perform detailed specific aesthetic assessments and measurements to help identify the right size for you. -
05 Will I have visible scars?
All surgical procedures involve some scarring, but we use discreet incision techniques to minimise visibility. Most scars fade significantly over time and are well hidden under clothing or natural shape especially within the breast fold. -
06 How much downtime should I expect?
Most patients resume very light activities within a few days and return to normal routines in 1–2 weeks. Heavy lifting and intense exercise should be avoided for about 4–6 weeks. We'll provide detailed post-op care instructions tailored to your case. -
07 Round or anatomical breast implants?
Round implants are essentially round in appearance and fairly symmetrical where the implant's centre of projection is generally right in the midline centre. Anatomical implants have the projected point of the implant generally at the bottom third of the implant. This will assist to have a certain aesthetic look which is different to that of round implants. Not all patients are suitable for anatomical implants and likewise with round implants. It depends on a host of various aspects namely your soft tissue dimensions, soft tissue condition, medical issues, and many more various aspects that will be discussed with you confidently at your consultation with Dr Nara. -
08 Under the muscle, over the muscle or dual plane?
Despite the simple-sounding terms, each plane is a technical decision that needs to be matched to your respective goals and expectations. It is imperative for you to have a face to face consultation with Dr Nara prior to any surgery to understand the implications of each plane of dissection. Essentially, under the muscle implies that your breast implants will be carefully and gently placed under your chest wall muscles. Over the muscle implies placing your implant meticulously above the surface of your muscle yet behind the breast tissues. This can be done in various ways. Dr Nara also performs a modified version of the subfascial plane. Dual plane implies that part of the chest wall muscles are released at its insertion to allow it to spring up in a controlled fashion. This allows the bottom part of your implant to be directly under the breast tissue whereas the top half is under the muscle. This gives you a different sort of look and may help if you have slightly sag in your breast tissue and/or skin. -
09 How much does breast augmentation cost? The price of breast implants?
This is a common question. Whilst cost is important to every patient, there are other questions worth weighing first. Who is your doctor? Do they have formal training in cosmetic surgery? Are they equipped with the skill, training and qualifications to tailor your operation to your goals? Is your surgery performed in a fully accredited and licensed facility? Are you prepared to take time off work to accommodate for the recovery of surgery? Do you understand the consent process fully, including the risks, complications and possibility of revisions for any surgical intervention? Will you receive good follow-up care and be compliant with the instructions given to you? Will you make things easier for yourself after surgery — for example, who will look after the dog or the cat? Dr Nara is a cosmetic doctor — private health insurance and Medicare rebates do not apply. A formalised quote is only provided to you after your individual consultation with Dr Kishen Nara, by Cate, the practice manager. -
10 How long is the incision or the cut?
Incision lengths may vary depending on your goals, implant size, and surgical techniques used. Generally, incision lengths may vary anywhere approximately from 35mm to 70mm. Most importantly, consider who your doctor is, whether they are particular about surgical technique and whether you are having this operation in an accredited and licensed facility. -
11 Where are the incisions or the cut normally placed?
Incisions for breast implants or augmentation can be placed either just under the breast at the breast fold or inframammary fold, in the armpit, around the areolar or even through the navel. More than 70% of doctors performing this in Australia place the incisions under the breast. Are they all the same when placed under the breast? No, they are uniquely different. Dr Nara tailors the incision to your expectations and respective dimensions. -
12 Can incisions or the approach be done via the armpit?
Transaxillary breast augmentation or breast augmentation via an armpit incision can be performed in selected patients. Some patients may feel a preference for the incision to be done from the armpit crease. There are advantages and disadvantages that can be discussed at your consultation. There are risks that may occur with any surgery so it is important to discuss and learn about them prior to surgery. To learn more about the risks of surgery click here. Patients who had previous issues with scarring or are concerned about the scar under the breast may have a preference for transaxillary breast augmentation given the use of the armpit incision. The specific location about this can be discussed at your consultation with Dr Nara. -
13 What if I have discomfort after surgery?
Whenever any of our patients at RevAesthetic develop any issues or concerns you must contact our support team or Dr Nara so we can attend to you. This allows us to deliver the right treatment to you so that you get better. It is not uncommon to have some degree of discomfort after breast implant surgery. It is worth noting that each patient responds differently to surgery and each person's experience is unique. -
14 How do I sleep after breast implants surgery?
Sleeping is very important to recover your strength and heal from surgery. At RevAesthetic, we want to ensure that your sleep is maintained. Whilst every effort by yourself and the team is done to ensure you are comfortable, all patients will experience some degree of discomfort after surgery and something is at least different that will affect your sleep. The thing to do is to ensure that you do not put pressure on the chest or breast area after surgery. You have to sleep facing up for a period of time before you are allowed to sleep from side to side. This will actually help you to be more comfortable and in fact you will get better quality of sleep. One trick is to make sure you have your box of tissues, water bottle (plastic not glass), and medications right next to you all within arms reach so that you do not need to worry about your sleep. -
15 What is the most common complication from breast implant surgery?
The most common complication after breast augmentation with implants is capsular contracture. A capsule normally forms around your breast implants after surgery. As this is entirely normal, it will envelop the implants from your breast tissue as well as any underlying structures in your body. After sometime, almost all patients with implants will have "capsular contracture" or even the same capsule that surrounded your implants shrinks over time causing discomfort and a change of appearance of the breast. The exact cause of this is unknown but some known contributory factors are bleeding, infection, pregnancy and implant surface type. -
16 When may I restart exercises following breast implants surgery?
Each and every individual who has surgery performed by Dr Nara has individualised after care instructions. There is only one you and significant variations from person to person in terms of genetic makeup, medications, medical conditions, previous injury, and current physical function. Most patients may return to light walking in days after surgery. Others may resume light exercises 6 weeks from surgery. We tailor your after surgery care based on your individual requirements and function. -
17 If I have larger breasts would this change my aftercare?
Yes, if you decide to have larger breasts, there may be several implications depending on the size, volume and projection of your implants. This may restrict your lifestyle depending on your clinical assessment and operative outcome. Generally speaking, the larger the breasts after breast augmentation with implants, the more limitations you may have with movement and also this may increase the potential risks of surgery. The longevity of the implants may also reduce since this would have an impact on your overlying soft tissues such as the muscles, breast tissue and skin. -
18 Do you only see patients from Melbourne?
At RevAesthetic, we value patients from all walks of life who have diverse cultural and religious backgrounds. We see patients considering breast implants (please read our disclaimer about the potential risks of surgery) at our Melbourne rooms in Chadstone — caring for patients across Malvern East, Mount Waverley, Glen Waverley, Toorak, Armadale, Brighton, Hampton, Sandringham, Camberwell, Hawthorn, Kew, Doncaster, Box Hill, Ringwood and Berwick — and from regional Victoria including Bendigo, Ballarat, Geelong, Bairnsdale, Mount Buller and the Mornington Peninsula. 19 What is pain like after breast implant surgery?
All surgeries require time to heal. During this time you can expect discomfort however modern measures help with discomfort significantly. To learn more about the risks of surgery click here. Time to recovery is generally 7 to 10 days. -
20 When can I get back to work?
This varies depending on your occupation. Will be discussed in detail at your consultation. -
21 When may I resume my routine exercises?
It varies on the intensity of exercises you perform: brisk walking from 3 days; running from 3 months (strictly with bra garment); HIIT intense exercises from 6 months. This will be discussed at your consultation. -
22 When can I expect a good full recovery?
6 months with compliance to all instructions and advice — and hard work. -
23 What are the risks of breast implant surgery?
Specifically, the safety, and risk minimisation strategies will be discussed at your consultation. Some risks of surgery involve bleeding, infection, numbness, scarring and wound breakdown. Other risks involve serious but uncommon risks such as heart attack, stroke, lung puncture, air in lung, serious infection of the skin and dissatisfaction. Click here to learn more about the risks of surgery. No surgery has permanent results where the results for breast augmentation with implants may change over time. -
24 Capsular Contracture
This is the commonest risk of breast implants surgery when scar tissue forms around the implant and hardens, potentially changing the breast shape or causing discomfort. If this occurs, it requires revision surgery depending on the severity and grading. Surgical technique, implant choice and compliance with instructions can help minimise this risk. -
25 Implant Rupture or Deflation
Implants are long-lasting but not lifetime devices. Ruptures or deflations may occur over time. Modern implants are cohesive, meaning silicone tends to stay in place even if the shell is compromised. Regular reviews help detect issues early. The general risk of this are increments of 1% per year. -
26 Breast Implant Illness (BII) & ALCL Awareness
Some patients report systemic symptoms potentially linked to implants (BII), although scientific consensus is evolving. Breast Implant-Associated ALCL is a rare lymphoma linked to certain textured implants. Dr Nara will openly discuss these risks and your implant choices during your consultation. -
27 I already have breast implants and am looking into revision breast surgery?
If you resonate with this and are wanting more information, please learn more about revision breast implants.
