Procedure · Tasmania
Hymen repair in Tasmania.
Dr Kishen Nara consults on hymen repair at the Cooee rooms on Tasmania's north-west coast, with alternate consult dates at Hobart approximately every two months for patients in the south. Bookings are arranged confidentially by Cate or Jenny, and a Zoom consultation can be the first appointment.
The conversation
Private, confidential, and on your terms
A hymen repair consultation in Tasmania is private and unhurried. Bookings are handled by Cate or Jenny, both female members of our team. The Tasmania visit cadence means in-person consultations are scheduled around Dr Nara's selected dates each year at Cooee, and around the approximately two-monthly Hobart visits. Many patients begin with a Zoom consultation — particularly if the in-person travel would be difficult to time, or if walking into the rooms cold would feel uncomfortable; that is straightforward to arrange.
When the in-person consultation happens, it is held in a separate examination room with a chaperone present. The conversation comes first, the examination second, and the discussion of options third. You do not have to disclose reasons; you do not have to justify the procedure to us.
A formal cooling-off period applies between consultation and any cosmetic procedure, in line with Medical Board of Australia guidelines. A second medical opinion is encouraged at any stage.
Coming to Cooee — or to Hobart
A practical note on the rooms
Cooee sits on the Bass Highway, a short drive from Burnie. Patients travel to Cooee from across the north-west — Burnie, Devonport, Ulverstone, Penguin, Wynyard, Somerset, Latrobe, Sheffield, Smithton, Deloraine, Launceston and the northern midlands — and from southern Tasmania when the timing aligns with a visit. On-site parking is available; the rooms are kept quiet around the time of the appointment.
For patients closer to the south — Hobart, Sandy Bay, South Hobart, Glenorchy, Lutana, New Town, Battery Point, Bellerive, Tranmere, Kingston, Blackmans Bay, Howrah, Lindisfarne, Moonah and the wider Hobart suburbs — the alternate Hobart consult location runs approximately every two months at 71 Bathurst Street in the centre of the city. The consultation process and the chaperone arrangements are the same as at Cooee. Reception will tell you which is the soonest available consult location for your circumstances.
Procedures themselves are performed at accredited Australian hospital facilities. Depending on the procedure and your circumstances, this may be in Tasmania or on the mainland.
The procedure, in brief
Hymen repair, plainly explained
Hymenoplasty (hymen repair) is surgery to restore the structural tissues of the hymen. The technique used depends on individual anatomy and the patient's specific circumstances; Dr Nara will explain the options at consultation. The procedure is generally performed under general anaesthesia at an accredited Australian hospital facility.
A full clinical overview, including the risks specific to hymen repair, is on the hymen repair pillar page. The hymen repair patient resources hub carries the longer-form companion notes on what the consultation involves, what recovery looks like, and the cultural and personal context many patients carry into the conversation.
Cosmetic surgery carries risks. These are discussed openly at consultation, in the context of your circumstances. The risks of surgery page gives a fuller factual overview.
