Labiaplasty in Tasmania.
Dr Kishen Nara consults on labiaplasty at the Cooee rooms on Tasmania's north-west coast — the primary Tasmania consult location, where most Tasmanian labiaplasty consultations are held. For patients in the south, alternate consult dates are scheduled at Hobart approximately every two months.
The conversation
Two consultations, around the visit cadence
A labiaplasty consultation with Dr Nara in Tasmania is generally an hour. Cooee is the primary Tasmania consult location and most Tasmanian patients are seen there. The structure is the same as at our Melbourne and Adelaide clinics — a private examination room, a chaperone present, the conversation paced by you. Dr Nara will examine the anatomy, explain the technique options — selective anatomic preservation (SAP) and the simpler trim approach — and discuss which may suit your circumstances. He will also talk about the option of doing nothing as a real option.
Because Dr Nara visits Tasmania on selected dates rather than weekly, the two-consultation process is generally arranged around the visit cadence. The first consultation can be in person at Cooee or at the alternate Hobart dates, or — particularly for patients who would prefer to begin remotely — by Zoom. A second consultation before any commitment is encouraged, often during the next in-person visit.
A formal written cooling-off period applies between consultation and any cosmetic procedure, in line with Medical Board of Australia guidelines. A second medical opinion is encouraged at any stage.
Travelling to Cooee — or to Hobart
A practical note for Tasmanian patients
Cooee sits on the Bass Highway, a short drive from Burnie. Patients travel to Cooee from across the north-west coast — Burnie, Devonport, Ulverstone, Penguin, Wynyard, Somerset, Latrobe, Sheffield, Smithton and across to Launceston, Deloraine and the northern midlands — and from southern Tasmania when the timing aligns with a visit. On-site parking is available, and the rooms are quiet around the time of the appointment.
For patients closer to the south — Hobart, Sandy Bay, South Hobart, Glenorchy, Lutana, New Town, Newtown, Battery Point, Bellerive, Tranmere, Kingston, Blackmans Bay, Howrah, Lindisfarne, Moonah and the wider Hobart suburbs — the alternate Hobart consult location runs approximately every two months. The Hobart address is 71 Bathurst Street, central to the city. The procedure range and the consultation process are the same as at Cooee. Reception will tell you which is the soonest available consult location for your circumstances.
Procedures themselves are performed at accredited Australian hospital facilities. Depending on the procedure and your individual circumstances, this may be in Tasmania or on the mainland. Many patients combine a Tasmania consultation with a procedure in Melbourne; Dr Nara will discuss what suits your timing at consultation.
The procedure, in brief
Selective anatomic preservation
The selective anatomic preservation (SAP) technique is the approach generally used. SAP preserves the natural anatomical landmarks of the labia minora while reducing the soft-tissue volume that is the patient's concern. The aim is a result that fits the patient's anatomy rather than a generic appearance. Other techniques may be more appropriate in some cases.
A full clinical overview, including risks and recovery, is on the labiaplasty pillar page. The labiaplasty patient resources hub carries the longer-form companion guides on consult preparation and week-by-week recovery — useful reading either before or between the two consultations.
Cosmetic surgery carries risks. These are discussed openly at consultation, in the context of your circumstances. The risks of surgery page gives a fuller factual overview.
