A blepharoplasty consultation with Dr Nara in Adelaide is generally an hour. The Henry Rooms are quiet, the consulting room is private, and a chaperone is present throughout the examination. Dr Nara will examine the upper-lid skin, the lower-lid soft tissues, the brow position and the tear-trough, and assess whether what you are noticing is primarily upper-lid heaviness, lower-lid bags, or a combination.
For many patients, the question is functional as well as aesthetic — upper-lid heaviness can interfere with driving and reading, particularly in the peripheral field. Dr Nara will discuss this honestly. He will also discuss the option of doing nothing as a real option, and the order of operations if a brow lift or a non-surgical alternative might suit you better.

Upper lids, lower lids, or both
Upper-lid blepharoplasty involves the careful removal of excess skin (dermatochalasis) and, where indicated, a conservative amount of underlying tissue, through an incision concealed in the natural upper-lid crease. Lower-lid blepharoplasty addresses bags and / or skin laxity — the technique varies (transconjunctival, skin-pinch, or a combined approach) depending on what is contributing. Both can sometimes be performed under local anaesthesia with sedation; for combined cases, general anaesthesia at an accredited Australian hospital facility is generally appropriate.
