Blepharoplasty in Melbourne.
Dr Kishen Nara consults on blepharoplasty (eyelid lift surgery) at the Chadstone rooms in Melbourne — the principal Melbourne consult location, where most Victorian eyelid surgery consultations are held. For patients in the bayside and south-east, alternate consult dates are also offered at Chelsea Heights.
The conversation
Functional, aesthetic, or both
A blepharoplasty consultation with Dr Nara in Melbourne is generally an hour. The structure is the same at the Chadstone rooms as it is at our other clinics: a private examination room, a chaperone present, the conversation paced by you. Dr Nara will examine the upper-lid skin, the lower-lid soft tissues, the brow position and the tear-trough, and assess whether what you are noticing is primarily upper-lid heaviness, lower-lid bags, or a combination.
For many patients, the question is functional as well as aesthetic — upper-lid heaviness can interfere with driving and reading, particularly in the peripheral field. Dr Nara will discuss this honestly. He will also discuss the option of doing nothing as a real option, and the order of operations if a brow lift or a non-surgical alternative might suit you better.
Most Victorian eyelid-surgery patients consult at Chadstone, which has on-site parking throughout the precinct. A second consultation is commonly arranged before any commitment to a procedure, and a formal written cooling-off period applies in line with Medical Board of Australia guidelines. A written quote — when one is provided — is itemised.
Travelling to Chadstone
From across Melbourne, and beyond
Patients travel to Chadstone for eyelid surgery from across Melbourne — Malvern East, Toorak, Armadale, South Yarra, Hawksburn, Hawthorn, Camberwell, Kew, Richmond, Elwood, Caulfield, Glen Iris, Glen Waverley, Mount Waverley, Box Hill, Doncaster, Ringwood, Mooroolbark, Berwick, Brighton, Hampton, Sandringham and the wider eastern, south-eastern and bayside suburbs — and from regional Victoria including Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo, Bairnsdale and the Mornington Peninsula. The Monash Freeway, Princes Highway and Warrigal Road all bring you in.
For patients closer to the bayside and south-east — Chelsea, Chelsea Heights, Carrum, Patterson Lakes, Bonbeach, Edithvale, Aspendale, Mordialloc, Mentone, Cheltenham, Parkdale, Seaford, Frankston and the wider Mornington Peninsula — the alternate Chelsea Heights consult location is sometimes a shorter trip.
Procedures themselves are performed at accredited Australian hospital or day-surgery facilities. The facility varies depending on procedure scheduling and your individual circumstances; Dr Nara will discuss this with you at consultation.
The procedure, in brief
Upper lids, lower lids, or both
Upper-lid blepharoplasty involves the careful removal of excess skin (dermatochalasis) and, where indicated, a conservative amount of underlying tissue, through an incision concealed in the natural upper-lid crease. Lower-lid blepharoplasty addresses bags and / or skin laxity — the technique varies (transconjunctival, skin-pinch, or a combined approach) depending on what is contributing. Both can sometimes be performed under local anaesthesia with sedation; for combined cases, general anaesthesia at an accredited Australian hospital facility is generally appropriate.
A full clinical overview, including the risks specific to eyelid surgery — bruising, swelling, dry eye, asymmetry, scar issues, and rare but serious complications — is on the blepharoplasty pillar page. Related reading on whether eyelid surgery affects driving is on this article.
Cosmetic surgery carries risks. These are discussed openly at consultation, in the context of your circumstances. The risks of surgery page gives a fuller factual overview.
